Whether you're seeking for a system anomaly to correct it or developing the system from scratch, the main challenge is to master the individual and joint functional behavior of software and hardware bricks that make it up. It is important to know the individual error model of each brick, and the propagation model of these errors in the system, which is possibly nonlinear.
At Archimedean, we start by developing a philosophy of the behaviour of the system and its elementary blocks: after having identified what is expected of the system, we seek for prior knowledge on its blocks based on what already exists (documentation, applications, scientific corpus, expert opinion). In case of uncertainty, this prior knowledge is tested by experience: the brick of the system is examined by performance tests to validate it and to discriminate the aspects to be fine-tuned.
In the context of new product development, we generally start from technologies that have been tested widely even if they respond less well to the specific need, and we form a prototype. We study the latter to get an idea of its overall behavior. We then improve each of its blocks in an interactive, iterative and constructive way.
